Gordon Dowell Memorial Scholarship
The Gordon Dowell Memorial Scholarship is established to honor a life dedicated to faith, family, and a profound commitment to the stewardship of the land. Gordon’s journey in agriculture began on a dairy farm in Oklahoma, where he developed a lifelong passion that was nurtured through active participation in 4-H, earning him a place in the Oklahoma State 4-H Hall of Fame.
He pursued his calling through higher education, earning a Bachelor’s in Animal Science, a Master’s in Agricultural Economics, and a Doctorate in Administration of Higher Education. Gordon dedicated his professional life to being a wise steward of the land and a mentor to others as an Agriculture Extension Agent with Oklahoma State University, Texas A&M, the USDA, and the University of Illinois.
Beyond his professional achievements, Gordon was a man of deep faith and a dedicated servant to his community. He was an active member of the Kiwanis Club, Rotary International, and the Lion’s Club, and served as a Deacon and Elder in his church. His life was a testament to the values of integrity, hard work, and service to others.
This scholarship will be awarded to a student at Abilene Christian University who is following in Gordon’s footsteps by majoring in Agribusiness, Animal Science, or Environmental Science. The ideal candidate will share his passion for agriculture, demonstrate strong character, and possess a commitment to service, carrying forward the enduring legacy of a man who dedicated his life to cultivating a better world.
